Chhattisgarh: ‘Dial 112’ Driver and Associates Arrested for Gangrape of 19-Year-Old; Two Still at Large

Raipur, Chhattisgarh: A driver employed with the ‘Dial 112’ emergency service, along with four of his associates, allegedly gang-raped a 19-year-old woman in Korba district. The main accused reportedly lured the victim to a secluded residential quarter, where the crime took place. Two suspects have been arrested so far, while two others remain at large.

Police Investigation
According to police, the main accused, a Dial 112 driver, called the woman around 11 PM on Thursday and asked her to come to an isolated quarter in the Banki area. There, he and four accomplices allegedly committed the crime, leaving the victim unconscious. The woman later managed to reach home and informed her family, who rushed her to a medical college hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.

Initially, a zero FIR was registered at Civil Lines Police Station based on the complaint. The case was later transferred to Bankmangora Police Station, where a formal investigation began on Friday.

Police Action and Arrests
Hospital authorities informed the police, who alerted senior officials. Following instructions from the District Superintendent of Police, a special team was formed to trace the accused. During raids, two of the five suspects—including the Dial 112 driver—were taken into custody. Police Superintendent Siddharth Tiwari stated that interrogation is ongoing, and the remaining suspects will be apprehended soon.

Concerns Over Emergency Services
This shocking incident raises serious concerns over the safety of women, particularly when someone associated with emergency services is involved. Police have assured that a thorough investigation is underway and all perpetrators will be brought to justice promptly.
