Chef Arrested in Delhi for Rs 17 Lakh Cyber Fraud

New Delhi, February 3: In a significant cybercrime bust, Delhi Police have arrested a 25-year-old chef for allegedly aiding fraudsters in siphoning off over Rs 17 lakh from a city resident through online scams, officials reported on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as Pathan Uzef Khalil Khan, a resident of Jalna district in Maharashtra, was apprehended and brought to Delhi on a transit remand. Police said he allegedly played a key role in helping cybercriminals dupe the victim using fake work-from-home opportunities involving paid online tasks.

The case came to light when Rahul Saini, a resident of Keshav Puram, filed an online complaint stating that he had been cheated of Rs 17,16,777 by fraudsters promising lucrative earnings through work-from-home assignments. Acting on the complaint, Delhi Police launched an investigation that led to the identification and arrest of Khan.

Authorities have confirmed that further investigation is underway to track down the other individuals involved in the scam and to recover the defrauded money. Police have also warned citizens to exercise caution while engaging in online jobs, especially those promising unusually high returns with minimal effort.

Cybercrime experts note that such scams are on the rise, with fraudsters increasingly exploiting digital platforms to target unsuspecting individuals. They advise verifying job offers through trusted sources and reporting suspicious activities immediately.

This arrest marks a crucial step by Delhi Police in tackling cyber fraud and safeguarding residents against increasingly sophisticated online scams.
