Morena, MP: Panic gripped the village of Nandupura in Morena district after a cheetah, reportedly straying from Kuno National Park, attacked the livestock in the dead of night. The wild predator reportedly killed 16 sheep and goats, leaving the villagers in shock when they discovered the aftermath in the morning. Footprints of the cheetah were found at the site.
According to locals, the incident occurred in the Rampur area, where the cheetah entered livestock enclosures and attacked the animals. Local herders Mihipat Baghel and Bhagirath reported that Vasudev, while checking the animals, was horrified to see the carnage. In an attempt to escape, Vasudev fell and sustained a knee injury.
The cheetah reportedly moved from one farmer’s enclosure to another, preying on their livestock. A total of 16 animals were confirmed dead as per the farmers’ complaint.
Following the attack, the affected farmers approached the local police station seeking compensation. As the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the forest department, the police have forwarded the complaint accordingly. Station Head Rammantra Gupta confirmed that the affected areas border the forest, and recent movements of a cheetah in the vicinity had been observed.
The forest department, through Ranger Hina Khan, stated that compensation is provided if the damage is confirmed to have been caused by a cheetah, and the matter will be addressed as per regulations.
Villagers expressed fear over the cheetah’s presence, reporting sightings of the animal roaming the area multiple times. “We are unable to sleep at night due to fear,” said local residents, highlighting the growing anxiety among the community.
