A wedding reception in Aligarh turned chaotic on Sunday night after a sign reading “Beef Korma” at a food counter triggered a major dispute. The incident took place at Shahnai Guest House in the Civil Lines area, leading to clashes, political involvement, and police intervention. Three persons, including the caterer, have been detained for questioning.
Signboard Sparks Tension
According to reports, Akash—the son of Jawan Nagar Panchayat Chairman—attended the Walima feast with his friends. At one of the food stalls, he noticed a board displaying “Beef Korma.” He and a friend began recording a video of the board, which led to objections from several people present at the venue.
As the argument escalated, physical altercations were reported. Akash immediately called his associates and local BJP workers to the spot, further amplifying the tension. Police reached the venue soon after and brought the situation under control. BSP leader Salman Shahid also arrived at the police station after learning about the clash.
Caterer Claims It Was a Mistake
The caterer responsible for the stall stated that no beef was being served and that the signboard was placed “by mistake.” However, given the sensitivity of the issue, the police detained the stall operator and two others. They are being interrogated to determine whether beef was indeed served or if it was a case of mislabeling.
Food Safety Department Collects Sample
Officials from the Food Safety and Drug Administration collected meat samples from the venue for testing. CCTV footage from the guest house is also being reviewed to verify events leading up to the confrontation.
Police Continue Investigation
Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken if anyone is found guilty of serving prohibited meat or instigating violence. The investigation is ongoing, with forensic reports awaited.
