Chaos at Khandwa Police Station After Love Marriage; TI Accused of Assaulting Bride’s Family

A case of love marriage turned into high drama at a Khandwa police station on Monday, where the bride’s family accused the Station House Officer (SHO) of assaulting women inside the premises. The police, however, denied the allegations and claimed they were only preventing the family from forcibly taking away the adult woman.

Family Alleges Assault Inside Police Station

Tension escalated when the newly married couple — a young woman and her lover-turned-husband Vikas from Ahmedpur Khaigaon — arrived at the police station. Moments later, the woman’s family also reached the spot to meet her, leading to heated arguments and a scuffle.

Rajni Mohe, the woman’s mother, accused TI Dheeresh Dharwal of “beating them with a pipe stick” and physically throwing them out.

Rajni alleged:
“My daughter eloped on December 4 and married Vikas. Out of shock and shame, I consumed poison. While still in hospital, I learned she was at the police station. When I went there to meet her, the TI pushed us out and mercilessly beat us. My hands, waist, and legs are swollen.”

The family also claimed that they had recorded videos of the incident, but the police seized their phones and deleted the footage before returning them.

SHO Denies All Allegations

TI Dheeresh Dharwal completely rejected the accusations.
“Nobody was beaten. The girl is an adult and wishes to stay with her husband. Her family tried to forcibly drag her away from police custody, and we only stopped them. A minor scuffle took place, but calling it assault is wrong,” he said.

He added that his primary responsibility was to ensure the safety of the young woman, as her family members were extremely agitated and the situation was tense.

Bajrang Dal Members Reach Police Station; Heated Exchanges Follow

Following the allegations, several relatives and Bajrang Dal workers reached the police station, intensifying the confrontation. Sharp verbal exchanges continued for some time before senior officers and community members intervened to defuse the situation.

A face-to-face interaction was later held between the aggrieved women and the TI, who reiterated:
“I did not beat anyone. I only separated them to prevent escalation.”

CCTV Footage Holds the Key

The family claims that the truth will emerge once CCTV footage from the police station is reviewed. According to them, the entire incident is recorded and will prove their allegations.

After prolonged discussions and counselling, the police ultimately allowed the adult woman to leave with her husband Vikas. Family members were warned that any attempt to threaten or harm the couple would lead to strict legal action.
