Chaos at Hajipur Sadar Hospital Over Alleged Newborn Baby Swap, Doctors and Nurses Allegedly Flee After Protest

Hajipur: A major controversy has erupted at Hajipur Sadar Hospital in Bihar’s Vaishali district after a family alleged that their newborn baby was swapped inside the hospital. The incident triggered massive outrage, leading to heavy commotion within the hospital premises. Following the protest, several doctors and nurses reportedly left the hospital and fled, further intensifying public anger.

Police from the local Nagar police station reached the spot soon after receiving information and have begun an investigation into the matter.

Family Claims They Were Told a Baby Boy Was Born

According to available information, Gunjan, wife of Dheeraj Kumar, a resident of Islampur under the Goraul police station area, was admitted to Hajipur Sadar Hospital for delivery.

At around 12 noon, she was taken into the operation theatre for a surgical delivery. Shortly afterward, hospital staff reportedly informed the family that she had delivered a baby boy.

Sterilization Consent Given After ‘Boy Birth’ News

The woman’s brother, Sanjay Kumar, alleged that Gunjan already has a four-year-old daughter, and after receiving the news of a baby boy’s birth, the family agreed to proceed with sterilization (family planning surgery).

However, the situation took a shocking turn when the newborn was handed over nearly an hour later.

Family Alleges Baby Girl Was Handed Over Instead

Sanjay Kumar claimed that when the baby was finally handed over, the infant wrapped in cloth was not a boy but a baby girl. The family immediately refused to accept the child and accused the hospital of swapping the newborn.

This sparked anger among the relatives, who began protesting loudly inside the hospital.

Doctors and Nurses Allegedly Disappear Amid Uproar

As the protest escalated, the family alleged that the doctors and nurses posted in the OT ward left the ward and disappeared, leaving the hospital administration unable to respond effectively.

The incident created panic and chaos in the hospital, prompting authorities to call the police for assistance.

Civil Surgeon Denies Baby Swap, Orders Inquiry

Responding to the allegations, Hajipur Sadar Hospital Civil Surgeon Dr. Shyam Nandan Prasad stated that the woman had delivered a baby girl only.

He also confirmed that an inquiry team has been formed to investigate who informed the family that a boy was born. He assured that strict action would be taken against those found guilty after the investigation is completed.

Police Investigation Underway

The Nagar police station has begun preliminary questioning and is gathering details from hospital staff and the victim’s family. The case has raised serious concerns about negligence and transparency in government healthcare institutions, and the outcome of the inquiry is being closely watched.
