Chaos at Gorakhpur School After Insect Found in Mid-Day Meal; Cook Assaults Principal

Gorakhpur, December 18, 2025: A shocking incident unfolded at a government higher secondary school in Uswa Babu, Khajni police station area, when students refused to eat their mid-day meal after discovering an insect in the food. The situation escalated into a violent confrontation between the school’s female principal and the cook.

Fight Erupts Over Contaminated Food
According to reports, the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon during the lunch break. Upon learning about the insect in the meal, Principal Rita Ary questioned the cook, Gunja Devi, about the issue. The discussion quickly escalated into a heated argument and then physical confrontation, with both women grabbing each other by the hair and throwing each other to the ground. Staff members and teachers present in the school intervened to separate them and prevent further violence. A video of the altercation has gone viral on social media.

Allegations of Religious Coercion
Principal Rita Ary accused Gunja Devi of frequently leaving the school premises to propagate Christianity and allegedly pressuring others to convert. She claimed the incident was part of a broader conspiracy involving several staff members to remove her from the school.

Staff Describe Principal’s Authoritarian Behavior
Assistant Principal Shraddha Shukla stated that Principal Ary often exhibits authoritarian behavior toward the staff and communicates with them harshly. She added that disputes are common in the school and that authorities are already aware of ongoing tensions.

Action Promised by Education Officials
The Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) described the incident as “serious and shameful,” confirming that a formal investigation is underway. The video clearly shows the compromising of educational decorum, and strict action will be taken against the culprits once the inquiry is complete.
