Chaos at Gorakhpur Mahotsav: Fans Break Chairs During Pawan Singh’s Show, Police Resort to Lathi-Charge

Gorakhpur, UP: The second day of the Gorakhpur Mahotsav on 12 January turned chaotic during a performance by Bhojpuri singer and actor Pawan Singh. The event, which also featured MP Ravi Kishan, saw unruly crowds creating panic, breaking chairs, and attempting to rush the stage, prompting the police to resort to a lathi-charge to regain control.

The festival, held at Champa Devi Park since 11 January, drew large numbers of enthusiastic fans eager to see Pawan Singh perform. Strict security arrangements had been put in place, but the situation escalated after 10 PM when the program was underway.

The chaos intensified around midnight when the singer’s birthday was announced. A cake was brought on stage, and Ravi Kishan led a celebratory song, which prompted a large crowd to surge toward the stage, hoping to meet the star and participate in the celebrations.

With the crowd becoming increasingly uncontrollable, the police intervened. Despite appeals from the performers to remain calm, the situation continued until authorities declared the program closed. Only after the official conclusion of the event did the audience disperse.

This incident highlights the challenges of crowd management at high-profile cultural events, especially when excitement among fans reaches a peak.
