Chaos at Bhopal Municipal Corporation: Congress Protesters Storm Office, Burn Effigies of Mayor

Bhopal, February 10, 2026: Congress workers staged a fierce protest at the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters on Monday over issues of contaminated water supply and the ongoing cattle-related controversy. Despite heavy police deployment and barricades, protesters broke through and entered the premises, clashing briefly with the authorities.

The demonstrators raised slogans demanding the resignation of the Mayor and MIC members. Following the submission of a memorandum, they burned effigies of the Mayor and MIC members, portraying them as “Ravana,” and displayed a cutout of the Mayor with eleven heads.

Protest Led by Local Leaders
The demonstration began around 11:30 AM under the leadership of Ravindra Sahu, also known as ‘Jhumarwala’. Former corporators and party workers from various city wards, including the BHEL area, participated in the protest. Sahu highlighted that residents of several wards have been struggling with foul-smelling and contaminated water, posing serious health risks, especially to children, women, and the elderly. He demanded strict action and a thorough investigation from the BMC.

Cattle Slaughter Controversy Ignites Anger
The Congress also protested against alleged illegal cattle slaughter and meat export practices in Bhopal. Former district president Monu Saxena alleged that cattle slaughter is taking place under the Zinsi Chowraha, with tons of meat being sent to other states. He criticized the government for remaining silent on the matter despite presenting itself as a protector of traditional values.

Saxena further accused the BMC of bypassing regulations in awarding tenders for slaughterhouses, implicating Mayor Malti Rai and MIC members. He stated, “City residents pay taxes but receive neither proper roads nor safe drinking water. Sewer systems are in poor condition. A Mayor who encourages cattle slaughter must resign immediately.”
