Chandigarh Crime Branch Busts Major Fake Currency Gang; Five Youths Arrested from J&K, UP, and Haryana

Chandigarh: The Crime Branch of Chandigarh Police has uncovered an inter-state gang involved in printing and distributing counterfeit Indian currency. The operation led to the arrest of five accused and the seizure of a large quantity of fake notes along with printing equipment.

Under the supervision of SP Crime, guidance of DSP Crime, and leadership of SHO PS Crime, the Crime Branch team apprehended the accused—Avinash Kumar, Satyam Vishwakarma, Sandeep, Abdullah, and Shahzad. Police recovered fake currency notes, laptops, printers, tablets, and other materials used for producing counterfeit money.

Initial Arrests
The operation began on 19 December when the Crime Branch, patrolling near ISBT Sector 43, received intelligence about Avinash Kumar from Jammu & Kashmir hiding in a paying guest house in Sector 52, Village Kazhedi. Rajasthan Police was also searching for him. Multiple PGs and hotels were searched, resulting in Avinash’s arrest along with his accomplice Satyam Vishwakarma. Fake notes of ₹500, ₹200, and ₹50 denominations were recovered, along with stamping foils and other equipment, totaling over ₹101,000 in counterfeit currency.

Further Seizures and Arrests
On 20 December, based on Satyam’s disclosures, police searched a white Brezza (CH01-CJ-5179) parked in the area. The search yielded ₹4,76,300 in fake notes, including 803 notes of ₹500 and 374 notes of ₹200. Following further investigations, Sandeep from Mahendragarh (Haryana), and Abdullah and Shahzad from Saharanpur (UP) were also arrested.

Gang Operations
The gang operated across North India, using social media and Telegram groups to buy and sell counterfeit currency. They employed printers, stamping foils, and other tools to produce fake notes. This police action deals a significant blow to the counterfeit currency network in the region. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are tracing other members of the gang.
