In a major police operation in Dholpur, Rajasthan, a wanted criminal with a ₹50,000 reward, Ajit Thakur, was shot during a police encounter in the Basaidang area on Wednesday morning. Thakur sustained injuries and was immediately admitted to the district hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
During the operation, the police also arrested two other fugitives: Kalyan Thakur, another ₹50,000 reward criminal, and Dhira, with a ₹10,000 reward. Both are currently in police custody and being interrogated.
Action Triggered by Intelligence
According to officials, Cyber Cell Head Narendra Singh and constable Shripal received credible information about the presence of criminals near Sath Kyari in Basaidang. Based on this input, a joint team comprising the Cyber Cell, DST in-charge Ghanshyam Singh, Nihalganj Police, and Basaidang Police conducted a cordon-and-search operation early Wednesday.
Exchange of Fire During Encirclement
As the police cordoned off the area, the criminals opened fire when they realized they were trapped. The police responded in self-defense. During the exchange, Ajit Thakur was shot in the leg, incapacitating him until he was captured by the authorities. Immediate medical attention was provided at the district hospital.
Search Operation Continues
Police suspect that other members of the gang may still be hiding in the surrounding area. Additional forces have been deployed, and a thorough search operation is underway. Authorities confirmed that surveillance of the gang’s network continues, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend any remaining associates.
This encounter marks a significant success for Dholpur police in tackling the region’s notorious Chambal criminal networks.
