New Delhi: In a historic move to bolster India’s cybersecurity ecosystem, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has launched the Cyber Security Innovation Challenge (CSIC) 1.0 under the Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) project. The launch event featured the unveiling of a concept video, the CSIC website, a registration portal, and the official rulebook, presented by MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan.
Enhancing Technological Capabilities
During the launch, S. Krishnan emphasized the need for a two-pronged national cybersecurity strategy, highlighting awareness about emerging threats and strengthening technological capabilities. He noted that CSIC 1.0 addresses both objectives by exposing students to real-world cybersecurity challenges. The initiative not only aims to build skilled professionals and establish cybersecurity as a viable career path but also promotes homegrown, product-oriented solutions to fortify India’s cybersecurity landscape.
Fostering Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Vinayak Godse, CEO of the Data Security Council of India, pointed out that CSIC 1.0 is a unique initiative that empowers students and researchers to innovate from the early stages while nurturing an entrepreneurial mindset. IIT Madras Director, Prof. V. Kamakoti, added that the innovation challenge under the ISEA project identifies key cybersecurity challenges, enhances understanding, and equips participants to develop transformative solutions.
Bridging Academia, R&D, and Industry
Dr. Sanjay Bahl, Director General of CERT-In, highlighted ISEA’s crucial role in promoting innovation. He described the innovation challenge as a platform that unites research and development, education, and industry. “Building self-reliance in cybersecurity is more important than ever, as the nation’s digital transformation demands innovative solutions from our own institutions,” he said.
Conclusion
CSIC 1.0 represents a significant step towards creating a robust, self-reliant cybersecurity ecosystem in India by fostering talent, encouraging innovation, and strengthening technological capabilities across the nation.
