Patna, February 18, 2026: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified its probe into the suspicious death of a NEET student at Shambhu Girls Hostel in Patna. The investigation has now extended to the student’s ancestral home in Jehanabad, where her family was questioned for several hours. During the process, the CBI also seized the student’s brother’s mobile phone for further scrutiny.
The family of the deceased student had earlier demanded a judicial inquiry, prompting the state government to recommend a CBI investigation. Acting on this, the CBI team first inspected the Shambhu Girls Hostel in Patna on Tuesday before visiting the student’s home in Jehanabad. The student’s brother was taken to Patna for questioning. At the family home, CBI officers interviewed family members in separate rooms for nearly four hours.
Mobile Phone Seized for Investigation
The CBI officers seized the brother’s mobile phone around 3 PM on Tuesday. The agency is examining call details, social media activity, and all other communications linked to the student to trace any relevant connections. Earlier, on Monday, the team had also questioned a female inspector at Chitragupt Nagar police station for three hours as part of the ongoing probe.
Family Receives Threats Amid Investigation
Amid the ongoing investigation, the family received another threatening note near their home in Jehanabad. The handwritten note reportedly stated, “If you don’t comply…your daughter is gone, your son will die in two days.” This is the second such threat; a similar note was found outside the family home on February 14. Despite local police presence, the family alleges that threats continue, raising serious concerns about their safety.
Shakurabad police station in-charge Rahul Kumar confirmed that the family has lodged a complaint, and the police are investigating the source of these threats. The family has demanded stricter security measures and immediate action, stating that they feel completely unsafe.
Allegations of Administrative Negligence
The case has drawn significant public attention. Initially, the police had reportedly treated the incident as a suicide. However, post-mortem and forensic reports revealed evidence of sexual assault, intensifying outrage. The family has alleged that the student was raped and murdered and that local police attempted to suppress the case. Following public pressure, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed, and after declaring the student a minor, strict charges were framed under child protection laws.
The CBI continues its investigation, extending from Patna to Jehanabad, seeking justice for the deceased student while ensuring the family’s safety amid ongoing threats.
