Meerut: Commuters from Meerut and Ghaziabad traveling to Haridwar and other hill states of Uttarakhand frequently use the Chaudhary Charan Singh Kanwar Patthri Road via Sardhana. While this route saves both time and distance, it has also been the site of numerous serious accidents due to overspeeding. To curb these incidents, authorities have now imposed a strict speed limit of 50 kilometers per hour on this road.
During a recent enforcement drive, over 25 vehicles were automatically fined for exceeding the speed limit. The new system relies on sensors and cameras installed along the road, which detect overspeeding vehicles and immediately transmit the data to a digital challan system.
Technology to Ensure Compliance
The sensors and cameras measure vehicle speed continuously. If a vehicle is found violating the prescribed limit, its photograph is captured, and a digital fine is issued automatically. The primary objective of this initiative is to reduce accidents and ensure road safety for all commuters, according to CO Ashutosh Kumar.
A Road with a History of Accidents
Chaudhary Charan Singh Kanwar Patthri Road has witnessed several fatal accidents in the past. Two years ago, a bus overturned on this stretch, claiming four lives and injuring several others. Collisions involving motorcycles and trucks have also tragically cost lives. The new speed monitoring system aims to prevent such incidents in the future, enhancing both traffic discipline and public safety.
CO Ashutosh Kumar emphasized that strict enforcement of the speed limit will not only reduce accidents but also protect ordinary citizens traveling on this busy corridor.
