Car Plunges into Drain Near Bhopal Raj Bhavan, Police Stuck in Jurisdiction Dispute

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh: In a bizarre incident in Bhopal’s VIP area, a speeding car crashed through approximately 50 feet of iron railing and plunged into the Ban Ganga drain near Raj Bhavan late Saturday night. Miraculously, all four occupants escaped unharmed. Surprisingly, even 24 hours after the accident, the car remained in the drain due to a jurisdictional dispute between Arera Hills and Shyamla Hills police stations.

Eyewitnesses reported that the car, traveling at high speed, lost control and crashed directly into the deep drain. The four young men inside the vehicle survived without serious injuries, leaving onlookers astonished.

However, the accident quickly became mired in bureaucratic confusion. Both Arera Hills and Shyamla Hills police initially argued over which jurisdiction the site fell under, delaying the removal of the vehicle. While a crane was brought in overnight to extract the car, the attempt failed due to the drain’s depth.

Shyamla Hills Station Officer Bhupendra Kaur Sandhu confirmed the crane operation but noted that the vehicle could not be removed immediately. Meanwhile, Arera Hills TI Sunil Sharma described the incident as a routine accident and said no formal complaint had been filed, so no legal action has been initiated yet.

The stalled recovery drew large crowds of onlookers and highlighted the challenges of coordinating emergency response in Bhopal’s high-profile zones.
