Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh: In a decisive administrative action, the houses of Arbaaz Shah, accused in a high-profile love jihad case, and his uncle Ashiq Shah were demolished on Thursday. The accused is currently in jail. The operation was conducted by the Revenue Department and Harsud Police, with a significant police presence ensuring security.
Background of the Case
The demolition follows the tragic death of a young woman in the Harsud region. Family members allege that Arbaaz Shah had been harassing their daughter for marriage, pressuring her through persistent calls and messages. After the engagement with another man broke off due to the accused’s harassment, the victim became mentally distressed. On 28 October 2025, a confrontation with Arbaaz led her to attempt suicide by consuming poison. She succumbed to her injuries on 29 October, despite being rushed to the hospital.
Legal Proceedings and Public Outrage
Following the incident, a tense situation erupted in Harsud, with locals demanding immediate arrest and justice. Arbaaz Shah was charged under the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, 2021, along with multiple sections of the IPC. He was later apprehended by police and sent to judicial custody, alongside other family members.
Demolition of Illegal Constructions
Several Hindu organizations had urged authorities to remove the accused’s illegal properties. An inspection revealed multiple irregularities in construction. Early Thursday morning, administrative and police teams, along with revenue officers, demolished both houses using JCB machines. All valuable items were first secured under official supervision. Officials emphasized that the action served both to remove illegal constructions and to send a strong message against criminal activity.
Administration’s Statement
Harsud Police stated that the demolition was fully compliant with legal procedures. The department affirmed that strict legal action against the accused continues and emphasized the government’s commitment to ensure public safety and uphold trust in the law.
