Bulldozer Action in Varanasi Dalmandi: 186 Buildings to be Demolished for Road Widening, Operation Accelerates

Varanasi: The bulldozer action in Dalmandi, Varanasi, has commenced as part of the road widening project. Early Monday morning, demolition work began on several buildings marked for acquisition.

Road Widening Project and Demolition Details

The Dalmandi road widening project aims to improve connectivity to the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple, which is currently hindered by narrow streets causing difficulties for commuters and large vehicles. A total of 186 registered buildings are slated for demolition to facilitate the expansion. While manual demolition using hammers had been underway, progress was slow over the past two days. Consequently, the administration decided to accelerate the process using bulldozers.

Currently, a five-story building is being demolished as part of the operation. Prior public notifications had been issued by the authorities, and a substantial police force was deployed in the area from early morning to maintain law and order. The bulldozer action began near the Dalmandi entry gate, a strategic point to ease access for large vehicles.

The upper sections of the five-story building are being dismantled manually, while bulldozers clear the registered portions to prepare the path for subsequent work. Officials expect that further demolition operations will continue in the area to expedite the project.

Resuming the Campaign After Delays

Earlier, the demolition campaign had slowed due to procedural delays under the SIR process. Last week, work resumed, and 21 buildings have been registered so far for demolition. The PWD completed the registration of building CK-67/1, a five-story structure, while a dispute involving officials and women occurred during the demolition of building CK-39/5’s upper floors last Saturday. Security personnel intervened to resolve the situation.

On Monday, police conducted an inspection of the five-story building before initiating the bulldozer operation to ensure safety and order. Officials emphasized that this accelerated effort would help widen the street more efficiently and improve overall traffic flow in the Dalmandi area.
