Ujjain: In a strict enforcement drive, the Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC) demolished a four-storey unauthorized building located near the Mahakal Temple today. The construction, reportedly carried out in the name of Noorjahan Gulam Mohammad, had no legal approval. The demolition was carried out using bulldozers and a Poclain excavator, temporarily obstructing one of the routes leading to the temple.
Notice Ignored, Court Relief Denied
The building, located in Zone 3, Plot No. 97/7/A, was under scrutiny after municipal authorities received reports of illegal construction. The UMC issued a notice to halt the work, but the owners neither responded nor stopped the construction. Instead, they approached the court seeking relief. Despite this, the building continued to rise, reaching four floors. With the court denying any interim relief, the municipal corporation issued a final notice and proceeded with demolition.
Operation in a Sensitive Area
Officials noted that the building was situated in a Muslim-majority area, prompting the deployment of a large police contingent alongside municipal staff to ensure smooth execution. Both a bulldozer and a Poclain machine were employed for the operation.
Action Under Municipal and Land Development Laws
According to UMC building officer Deepak Sharma, the G+3 structure was constructed without any permission and belonged to Noorjahan Gulam Mohammad. The demolition was carried out under the provisions of the Land Development Act and the Municipal Corporation Act, ensuring legal compliance throughout the operation.
The UMC emphasized that strict action would continue against unauthorized constructions to maintain urban planning regulations and public safety near sensitive heritage and religious sites.
