Buffaloes Tied from Drawing Room to Bedroom: Lucknow Municipal Team Cracks Down on Illegal Dairy

Lucknow: In a shocking discovery, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation unearthed an illegal dairy operation in the Royal City Colony, Gadoura area of Biznour, when buffaloes and other cattle were found confined inside a residential home—from the drawing room to the bedrooms. The raid, part of an ongoing crackdown on unauthorized dairy activities, sent shockwaves across the neighborhood.

The action was conducted by Zone-8 of the Municipal Corporation as part of its drive against illegal dairy operations. Upon the team’s arrival, panic ensued among the operators, with one of them locking the buffaloes, cows, and other animals inside the house to avoid seizure.

Animals Found Locked Indoors
During the inspection, municipal authorities discovered a total of 11 buffaloes, 3 cows, 4 calves, and 1 heifer kept in living spaces. Local dairy operators and their supporters attempted to obstruct the officials, surrounding the municipal vehicles and causing tension that required police intervention. After nearly three hours of effort, the authorities successfully completed the operation.

The seized animals were transported to Kanji House in Aishbagh. Officials stated that the livestock would only be released after payment of the prescribed fines.

Public Complaints Triggered the Action
The crackdown followed multiple complaints from residents alleging that illegal dairy operators were dumping cattle waste in open plots, causing unhygienic conditions, waterlogging, and increasing the risk of mosquito-borne diseases.

Urban Regulations Ban Buffalo Rearing
Municipal authorities emphasized that under the Municipal Act of 1959, rearing buffaloes in urban areas is strictly prohibited. Buffaloes are classified as pollutants, while only up to two cows are permitted within city limits under a valid license. Dr. Abhinav Verma, Animal Welfare Officer, stated that the campaign against illegal dairies would continue, with strict action taken against violators of the law.
