Khandwa: In a bizarre incident that left both the police and the public stunned, a herd of buffaloes suddenly entered the Rameshwar Police Outpost in Khandwa on Monday afternoon. The animals barged into the premises amid a massive traffic jam near Lal Chowki, creating an unusual scene that quickly went viral on social media.
Police Seen Chasing Buffaloes with Sticks
The video, widely circulated online, shows several buffaloes strolling into the outpost as startled policemen momentarily freeze in disbelief. Moments later, the officers can be seen grabbing sticks and shouting “hurr-hurr!” as they herd the animals out of the premises, much like rural cattle handlers.
Bystanders recorded the entire incident and shared it across social media platforms, leaving users amused and raising questions about the region’s persistent traffic problems.
Traffic Chaos Led Animals Straight Into the Outpost
According to locals, the Lal Chowki and Rameshwar outpost areas have been struggling with severe traffic congestion for years. On the day of the incident, a long herd of buffaloes was passing through the jam-packed road when the animals, confused by the chaos, strayed directly into the police outpost.
In the viral video, policemen can be seen maneuvering through crowds and vehicles to push the animals back onto the road and away from the traffic bottleneck.
Public Reaction: “If Only the Overbridge Was Built…”
Following the incident, social media users sharply criticized the authorities, pointing out that the long-pending Lal Chowki Railway Crossing overbridge could have prevented such bizarre situations.
Locals claim that the railway gate closes 8 to 10 times a day, causing frequent jams. Pedestrians, vehicles, and even animals often get trapped together, leading to chaotic scenes and putting enormous pressure on the traffic police.
₹55 Crore Proposal Still Awaiting Approval
The demand for an overbridge at the Lal Chowki railway crossing is years old. In 2021, the Bridge Construction Department proposed a 656-meter-long overbridge costing ₹55 crore. Despite multiple meetings and discussions, no administrative approval has been granted even after four years.
As a result, no progress has been made toward executing the project.
Residents Suffer Daily for 6–7 Hours
The railway crossing affects the movement of people from 16 villages and 13 colonies, who rely heavily on this route. Locals complain they remain stuck in traffic for 6 to 7 hours daily due to the frequent closure of the railway gate and the increasing vehicular load.
The Big Question: When Will the Overbridge Be Built?
The buffalo incident has reignited public frustration, highlighting the ground realities of Khandwa’s failing traffic management. Citizens are now demanding answers:
When will construction of the long-awaited overbridge finally begin?
Until the administration acts, both people and animals may continue to suffer—and the police may have to keep handling more unexpected visitors amid the traffic chaos.
