Budget 2026: Maharashtra to Receive Nearly ₹1 Lakh Crore, Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train Funded

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday praised the Union Budget 2026, calling it a transformative budget for India’s journey toward becoming the world’s third-largest economy. He expressed gratitude to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for keeping Maharashtra’s interests in focus.

Fadnavis claimed that Maharashtra is set to receive nearly ₹1 lakh crore from the central budget, including ₹98,306 crore from central taxes. Initial allocations for various state projects amount to ₹12,355 crore. The state budget for the year will be presented by Chief Minister Fadnavis himself, who noted that late Deputy CM Ajit Pawar had completed significant groundwork, which he will continue to focus on from Monday.

Key Allocations for Maharashtra

  • ₹6,103 crore for the Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor
  • ₹1,702 crore for Mumbai Metro
  • ₹517.74 crore for Pune Metro
  • ₹680.79 crore for ITS on Samruddhi Mahamarg
  • ₹646.24 crore for the Agriculture & Rural Transformation Project
  • ₹385.78 crore for tertiary care & medical education development

Impact on Growth Hubs
Fadnavis highlighted that high-speed rail corridors—Mumbai–Pune and Pune–Hyderabad—will boost GDP significantly. The Pune–Hyderabad corridor is expected to particularly benefit Marathwada and Western Maharashtra. The budget also includes hostels for female students in every district and improved emergency medical facilities in district hospitals.

He further noted that over the next five years, ₹5,000 crore each will be allocated to growth hubs in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Pune, and Nagpur, enhancing infrastructure, urban development, and investment opportunities across the state.

The budget emphasizes planned urbanization, industrial and entrepreneurial incentives, investment promotion, and employment generation, with a historic ₹12 lakh crore allocation for infrastructure projects nationwide, up from the previous ₹1 lakh crore.
