Meerut: A shocking case of road rage has emerged from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, where a couple was brutally assaulted by a group of youths following a minor traffic incident. The incident, which was captured on CCTV cameras, allegedly involved the kicking of a five-month pregnant woman in the abdomen, triggering widespread outrage.
The incident took place late Tuesday night around 11 pm in the Sadar Bazar police station area. According to the complaint, Deepak Kumar, a resident of Brahmpuri, was returning home with his wife Shreya after attending her father’s birthday celebration in Kankerkhera’s Shakyapuri Colony.
Minor Collision Escalates into Violent Attack
Near Kasampur Phatak, a scooter coming from the opposite direction lightly brushed against the couple’s car. The impact caused no injuries and the scooter did not fall. However, the two scooter riders began chasing the car and eventually forced it to stop near Bombay Bazaar, outside a building known as White House.
Sensing danger, the couple stepped out of their car and stood in the building’s verandah. The scooter riders then allegedly called five to six associates, who arrived shortly thereafter and surrounded the couple.
Pregnant Woman Assaulted, CCTV Evidence Emerges
The group allegedly launched a violent attack on the couple. According to the victim, one of the attackers kicked Shreya in the stomach, causing her to fall to the ground. The entire incident was recorded by CCTV cameras installed at the location.
Staff members of the White House intervened and managed to rescue the couple, preventing further harm. Shreya was immediately taken to Dhanwantari Hospital, where doctors said her condition is currently stable.
Police Action and Arrest
Based on Deepak Kumar’s complaint, the Sadar Bazar police registered a case and identified the accused using CCTV footage. The suspects were identified as Premjit Singh and his son Ramandeep, residents of Govindpuri, Kankerkhera.
Police arrested Ramandeep on Wednesday and produced him before a court, which sent him to judicial custody. The main accused, Premjit Singh, along with other assailants, remains absconding.
Police Assure Swift Justice
SP City Ayush Vikram Singh stated that police acted promptly after the incident came to light. “Search operations are underway to arrest the remaining accused. All those involved will be brought to justice at the earliest,” he said.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns over road rage violence, public safety and the protection of women, particularly pregnant women, in urban areas.
