Patna: In a shocking act of violence, two brothers were mercilessly gunned down during a reception party in Shahpur village, under the Gopalpur police station area of Patna district, Bihar. The victims, identified as Manish Rai and Ranjit Rai, were first rushed to a nearby hospital after being shot, but were later declared dead at NMCH due to the severity of their injuries.
The brothers had attended the reception following the wedding of Dault Rai’s son, where the function was held in a makeshift pandal on an open field. Guests were dining and socializing when 10–12 armed assailants stormed the venue, opening indiscriminate fire. Some of the attackers were reportedly recognized by villagers.
Sequence of the Attack:
- Ranjit Rai Targeted First: According to locals, the assailants spotted Ranjit and fired repeatedly at him. He collapsed to the ground, bleeding heavily, shouting, “They’ve shot me!” as panic spread among the attendees.
- Manish Rai Dragged and Shot: Meanwhile, the attackers seized Manish by his shirt collar and dragged him out of the pandal. Despite Manish pleading for his life, the assailants continued their assault, tearing his shirt buttons in the process. He was taken near a tube well in the field, forced to remove his shirt and pants, and then shot multiple times.
After executing the attack, the criminals fled through the village’s unpaved lanes. Police recovered more than a dozen 7.65 mm pistol shells from the scene.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, raising serious concerns about security at public gatherings in rural Bihar. Authorities have launched an investigation to track down the perpetrators and uncover the motive behind this brutal double murder.
