Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, 29 November 2025: After evading the law for 36 years, Pradeep Saxena, also known as Abdul Rahim, has finally been arrested by Bareilly police. The 70-year-old had murdered his brother Sanjeev Saxena in 1987 and was sentenced to life imprisonment. He escaped after being released on parole in 1989 and had been on the run ever since.
Pradeep Saxena, originally from Shahi Kasba, had continuously changed his location to avoid capture. He worked in Transport Nagar, Moradabad, first as a truck helper and later as a driver. During this period, he met a Muslim widow, converted to Islam, and married her, adopting the name Abdul Rahim. He settled near Turkey Inter College in Islamnagar and grew a beard to blend in with the local community, severing ties with his original family.
High Court Orders Prompt Police Action
Despite being on parole, the court had continued to send summons and notices to his Shahi Kasba address. On 16 October 2025, the High Court ordered that Pradeep Saxena be arrested and presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Bareilly within four weeks. Following this directive, police intensified their search.
Tip from Brother Leads to Arrest
Police finally traced Pradeep’s whereabouts through another brother, Suresh Babu. Under questioning, Suresh Babu revealed that Pradeep had converted to Islam, married, and was residing in Moradabad’s Karula locality while working as a driver. Acting on this information, a Bareilly police team raided the area and successfully arrested Pradeep Saxena.
Pradeep is now back in custody, facing justice for the murder committed over three decades ago.
