
Balaghat: In a shocking incident, the bodies of a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, missing since Saturday, were found floating in a pond on Sunday morning. A bottle of pesticide was recovered near the site, suggesting the possibility of poisoning before the couple entered the water. Police are awaiting post-mortem reports to determine the exact cause of death.
Bodies Discovered in Pond
The incident occurred in the village of Salebardi under Rampayli police jurisdiction. The deceased have been identified as Prakash Rahangdale (45) and his daughter-in-law Seema Rahangdale (37), both residents of Salebardi. Locals spotted the bodies in the pond located between Salebardi and Yerwatola around 10 AM and immediately alerted the police. A large crowd gathered at the scene.
Bike and Footwear Found at Pond’s Edge
With the assistance of villagers, police retrieved the bodies and sent them for post-mortem at Rampayli Hospital. Prakash Rahangdale was employed as a supervisor under the Nal Jal Mission. Reports indicate that both individuals were last seen late Saturday night in the Yerwatola area. A bike and a pair of sandals were found near the pond, shortly before the bodies were discovered in the water.
Pesticide Bottle Suggests Poisoning
According to Rampayli Police Station in-charge, Dilip Maurya, a bottle of pesticide was found at the scene. No visible injuries were observed on the bodies. Preliminary indications suggest death due to poisoning followed by drowning, but the exact cause will only be confirmed after post-mortem.
Investigation Underway
SDOP Warasevni, Abhishek Chouhan, stated that a thorough investigation is ongoing to determine whether this was a case of suicide or if other factors were involved. The post-mortem report is expected to provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
