Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh: In a shocking incident from Patni village in Saharanpur, a newlywed bride reportedly fled with jewelry and ₹60,000 cash just 18 days after her marriage, leaving the groom’s family in despair. The groom’s family had paid ₹60,000 to arrange the marriage with the bride, a resident of Diwanpur, Kolkata.
According to reports, Gaurav Saini, son of Pawan Saini, married Mugli Khatoon alias Pooja on October 26. The marriage was arranged by a local youth, Sittu, who allegedly collected the ₹60,000 from Gaurav’s family. After the wedding, Gaurav was taken to Kolkata, where the marriage was conducted in the presence of the bride’s parents.
On November 12, while Gaurav was away in Chilkana and his parents were at work, Pooja reportedly vanished from the house, taking jewelry and the cash. The family discovered the missing items and an open wardrobe upon returning. Despite searching the village, nearby fields, and roads late into the night, the bride could not be located.
Local villagers detained the alleged middlemen, Sittu and his brother-in-law Monu, who claimed they would try to recover the bride and money but provided no concrete information. Attempts to contact Pooja’s family also failed as their phone remained unreachable.
The groom’s family has lodged a formal complaint with the police. Authorities have stated that the case appears to be a fraud under the guise of marriage and will be investigated from all angles. Gaurav expressed his heartbreak, saying, “We trusted her and spent money on this relationship. Now, who in the village can we even face? Our entire life has been mocked.”
