A dramatic situation unfolded in Uttar Pradesh’s Chandauli district when a newlywed bride attempted to flee immediately after her wedding, refusing to accompany the groom to his home. The incident triggered panic among both families and eventually led to police intervention.
According to available information, the marriage was arranged through a middleman between a young man from Mathura and a woman residing in Bihar. The wedding ceremony was solemnized on Tuesday at the Kali Temple in the Chakita area of Chandauli.
Following the wedding rituals, the groom and his family took the bride to Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Junction, where they were scheduled to board a train for Mathura. However, near the VIP Gate of the railway station, the bride suddenly attempted to run away, creating chaos at the crowded location.
Family members of the groom managed to stop her and questioned her about her sudden behavior. The bride clearly refused to go with the groom and began offering multiple excuses, which raised serious suspicion among the groom’s relatives.
When the family tried contacting the person who had arranged the marriage, they discovered that the middleman had already absconded after taking cash and jewelry. Realizing they had likely been deceived, the groom’s family immediately informed the police.
Upon receiving the information, the police reached the spot and brought both parties to the Mugalsarai Kotwali police station for questioning. Discussions and mediation continued for several hours in the presence of police officials.
The police stated that no written complaint has been filed by either side so far. Efforts are currently underway to trace the absconding middleman.
Police officials also revealed that similar incidents have surfaced in the past. In December 2024, a comparable case was reported, indicating the possible presence of an organized “bride fraud gang” operating between Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, targeting unsuspecting grooms through arranged marriages.
Authorities have urged families to exercise caution while entering into marriages through unknown intermediaries and assured that appropriate legal action will be taken once a formal complaint is received.
