A shocking incident of open corruption surfaced in Morena when a complainant exposed the alleged bribe rates of municipal staff right in front of the city Mayor. The incident, captured on video, has gone viral on social media, raising serious questions about the functioning of the municipal office.
Bribe Demand Exposed Live Before the Mayor
Complainant Suraj Kumar submitted a written complaint to Mayor Sharda Solanki, alleging that employees of the Morena Municipal Corporation were openly demanding bribes for issuing building permissions. To prove his claims, Suraj placed his phone on speaker mode and called the concerned staff members in front of the Mayor. During the conversation, the employees could allegedly be heard demanding amounts ranging between ₹8,000 and ₹10,000 for processing name transfer (नामांतरण) and diversion-related permissions.
The Mayor was reportedly left speechless as the details unfolded in front of her.
Bribe Paid but Permission Still Pending
According to Suraj Kumar, he had already paid the demanded amounts to several employees, yet the building permission was still not granted. He accused the staff—from the Revenue Inspector (RI) to clerks handling diversion and name transfer work—of systematically extorting money from citizens.
“System Trapped in Deep Corruption”
Suraj stated that the permission process in the municipal office is deeply entangled in corruption, where no work progresses without payment. Even after paying, citizens are forced to run from one desk to another.
The complainant demanded a fair and strict investigation, asserting that such practices severely harass the public and damage the reputation of the municipal administration.
Video of the Incident Goes Viral
People present at the office recorded the incident as Suraj confronted the employees over the phone in the Mayor’s presence. The clip has since gone viral, intensifying public outrage and raising pressure on the administration to take action.

Mayor Sharda Solanki acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations and assured that appropriate action would be taken as per rules. She emphasized that corruption will not be tolerated and those guilty will face strict consequences.

A tragic accident struck West Champaran late Sunday night when a speeding car lost control and rammed into a group of wedding guests standing along the roadside. The horrifying incident occurred near Bishunpurwa in Siswania Panchayat under the Lauria police station area.
Three Killed on the Spot, Panic in the Area
According to eyewitnesses, the car was moving at high speed when the driver suddenly lost control, crashing directly into the crowd of baratis. The impact was so severe that panic and chaos erupted immediately, with people screaming and running for safety.
Three people lost their lives, while around 16 others sustained critical injuries. Locals, along with the village head, rushed to help and transported the injured to the Lauria Community Health Centre.
One Dies During Treatment; Identification Difficult Amid Chaos
The health centre soon became overcrowded as relatives and villagers arrived in large numbers. Amid the confusion, identifying several injured persons became challenging. One victim succumbed to injuries during treatment and was identified as Dinesh Kumar, son of Munshi Kushwaha of Bishunpurwa. The identities of the other two deceased victims remain unconfirmed.
16 Critically Injured Referred to Bettiah GMCH
Doctors at the Lauria health centre described the condition of 16 injured individuals as critical. After initial treatment, all were referred to Bettiah Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for advanced care.
Sources said the wedding procession had travelled from Maldahiya Pokharia in Narkatiaganj to Bishunpurwa. As guests stood along the roadside near the venue, the speeding car ploughed into them without warning.
Police Seize Vehicle; Investigation Underway
Police reached the scene soon after receiving the information and have seized the car involved in the crash. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the accident and track down the driver if he fled the scene.
Local residents have demanded strict action against the accused driver and measures to prevent such reckless driving incidents. The entire region remains in shock, mourning the sudden and tragic loss of life.
