Breach in AIIMS Security: Woman Employee Robbed of Mangalsutra Inside Lift, CCTV Captures Thief

Bhopal: In a shocking daylight incident at the high-security AIIMS campus, a female employee was robbed of her mangalsutra inside a lift, raising serious questions about hospital security. CCTV footage of the theft has now surfaced, highlighting the breach.

Incident Details

The incident occurred in the lift located behind the Blood Bank. The victim, Varsha Soni, an attendant in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, was alone in the lift while on duty. A young man wearing a mask and cap entered the lift, engaging her under the pretext of asking for directions. As the lift reached the third floor, the assailant suddenly snatched the mangalsutra from Varsha’s neck and ran toward the stairs. In the struggle, the gold-beaded necklace broke, leaving part of it on the floor.

Security Lapses and Administrative Oversight

Shockingly, no security guard was stationed near the lift at the time of the incident. The frightened victim remained in the lift for nearly ten minutes before a patrolling guard arrived and informed the authorities. Reports suggest that due to Sunday and Republic Day holidays on January 26, security had been reduced, which the suspect exploited to escape through the IPD gate.

First Incident of Its Kind at AIIMS

This is reportedly the first incident of snatching inside a lift on the AIIMS campus. Although Varsha Soni has filed a written complaint at Bagsevania police station, no FIR has yet been registered. The police are currently working to identify the suspect using the CCTV footage.
