Boyfriend Married Someone Else, Woman Filed Fake Rape Case for Revenge; Court Sends Her to Jail for 3.5 Years

Lucknow: In a shocking misuse of law, a Lucknow court has sentenced a woman named Rinki to three and a half years in prison for filing a false rape and SC/ST Act case against her former boyfriend after he married someone else. The court also imposed a fine of ₹30,000, ordering that half of the fine be paid to the victim, Deepak Gupta, and that all financial assistance received from the government under the false case be recovered from Rinki.

The judgment was delivered by Special Judge Vivekanand Sharan Tripathi in the Mohanlalganj area of Lucknow.

Five-Year Affair, Then a Revenge Plan

According to the FIR filed on June 3 this year, Rinki alleged that she had been in a relationship with Deepak Gupta for five years and that he had physical relations with her on the promise of marriage. She claimed that Deepak secretly married another woman in February 2025.

Rinki further accused Deepak and his family members—his mother, brothers Pattu, Chattu, and Bauwa—of assaulting her when she visited their home on May 30.

Medical Test Refusal Raised Suspicions

During the investigation, Rinki refused to undergo a medical examination. The court noted that this refusal, along with inconsistencies in her statements, weakened her claims.

The court observed that Rinki was motivated by revenge, intending to “teach Deepak a lesson” after he married someone else. The judge stated that no evidence supported the allegation of rape and concluded that Rinki intentionally filed a false case to damage Deepak’s marital life and reputation.

Innocent Man Spent Months in Jail

Due to Rinki’s fabricated complaint, Deepak Gupta spent several months in jail and faced severe social and emotional distress.

The court held Rinki guilty of:

  • Filing a false complaint,
  • Misusing provisions of the SC/ST Act,
  • Illegally entering Deepak’s house, and
  • Attempting to harm his marital life and dignity.

The judgment has been hailed as a strong message against the misuse of stringent laws meant for the protection of women and marginalized communities.
