Ahmedabad, Gujarat: Four schools in Ahmedabad received alarming bomb threat emails on Wednesday morning, prompting a swift police response. The emails reportedly specified the time of the alleged blasts, though subsequent investigations found no suspicious objects at any of the locations. Strikingly, the emails mentioned Union Home Minister Amit Shah and gangster Lawrence Bishnoi by name.
Details of the Threats
The affected schools include:
- Jebar School
- Maharaja Agrasen School
- DAV International School
- Zydus School
The emails, received at 8:35 AM, warned that explosions could occur by 1:11 PM, extending from the schools to the Sabarmati Central Jail. The messages allegedly referenced Lawrence Bishnoi, who is currently incarcerated at Sabarmati Jail.
Links to Khalistani Militants
Police suspect the emails may have originated from Khalistani extremists. The messages reportedly cited the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada by Indian security forces, marking 900 days since the Khalistan referendum, and threatened repercussions against Amit Shah and the Hindu Gujarati community.
Security Measures and Ongoing Investigation
Ahmedabad Police Joint CP Sharad Singhal stated that while no suspicious items were found, heightened security measures have been implemented across the city. Authorities are treating the situation with caution, given prior bomb threats received by Ahmedabad schools.
Background on Lawrence Bishnoi and Prior Threats
Lawrence Bishnoi, a high-profile criminal, is currently serving time at the technologically advanced Sabarmati Jail. Previously, Ahmedabad police arrested a woman who had sent bomb threat emails as part of a personal vendetta. This time, the emails have attracted significant attention due to the direct mention of the Home Minister and Bishnoi.
Context of the Threats
The incident comes as Ahmedabad has been selected to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, heightening the importance of security preparedness in the city. Police investigations are ongoing to trace the source of these emails and ensure the safety of students and the general public.
