Bomb Threat at Bombay High Court: Premises Evacuated, Police Investigate Multiple Emails

Mumbai, December 18, 2025: Panic erupted at the Bombay High Court on Thursday when proceedings were suddenly halted and judges ordered courtrooms to be evacuated following a bomb threat received via email. The police quickly cleared the entire premises, initiating a thorough investigation.

Threats Target Multiple Courts

The bomb threat was not limited to the Bombay High Court. Emails warning of explosions were also sent to other courts in Bandra and Esplanade, as well as several banks in Mumbai. According to the Mumbai Police Commissioner, this was part of a broader campaign of emailed threats targeting multiple judicial and financial institutions.

Bomb threats are not new to the Bombay High Court. Similar warnings were received on September 12 and 19, prompting prior security checks. On Thursday, when the threat was received, court operations had already begun for the day, but judges immediately instructed all courtrooms to be vacated.

Bomb Detection Units Deployed

Following the threat, the police evacuated the Fort area in South Mumbai, where the High Court is located. Bomb detection squads were deployed across the High Court and other courts in Bandra, Andheri, and the Esplanade-Killa complex to conduct detailed inspections. The Police Commissioner reassured the public that there was no reason to panic, emphasizing that all precautionary measures were taken and thorough searches completed.

Investigation Finds Threats False

After extensive checks, authorities confirmed that the emailed threats were false. Mumbai Police are actively tracing the source of the emails. Alongside Mumbai, the Nagpur court also received a similar bomb threat. The incident follows recent threats to schools in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, which had claimed to target the Union Home Minister.

The police continue to monitor all court premises and maintain heightened vigilance to ensure the safety of staff, judges, and the public.
