Bokaro, Jharkhand: Known not only for its rich mineral wealth but also for its breathtaking natural beauty, Jharkhand continues to surprise travelers with hidden gems. Located about 15 kilometers from Pindrajora on the Bokaro-Yurulia National Highway, Khairabeda village in Chas block is one such treasure where nature, history, and religious faith come together in perfect harmony.
A Confluence of Natural Beauty, History, and Faith
In Khairabeda, two majestic rock formations—Chendri Dongri and Bagha Dongri—stand as living testaments to the region’s natural splendor and historical significance. The rugged formations of these hills instantly remind visitors of the famous Ramgarh set from the iconic movie Sholay. Their scenic grandeur has even served as a backdrop for the Bengali film Shilpanchal nearly a decade ago, featuring prominent actors like Prosenjit, Devshri Roy, and Subhashish.
Tourism and Spiritual Significance Hand in Hand
These hills are not just tourist attractions but also hold deep spiritual meaning. Chendri Dongri hosts special rituals performed by the local Muslim community during Muharram, while Bagha Dongri houses temples dedicated to Goddess Kali and Lord Hanuman, along with a shrine of the village deity, reflecting social harmony. The name “Bagha Dongri” originates from the historic presence of tigers in the area. The elevation of these hills offers a panoramic view of the region, and nearby ponds provide cool relief during summer months, enhancing the locale’s charm.
Bagha Dongri Emerges as a Youth-Favorite Reel Destination
Over time, Bagha Dongri has developed into a sought-after tourist spot. During New Year and winter seasons, it attracts crowds for picnics, and it has rapidly become a favorite location for young visitors creating social media reels and selfies. At the far end of Khairabeda village, the confluence of the Gavai and Pangra rivers adds to the scenic appeal. Every year, thousands gather here during the Makar Sankranti fair to offer prayers at the idol of Goddess Ganga.
A Promising Future for Tourism and Local Employment
Khairabeda and Bagha Dongri hold immense potential for tourism. With proper attention from the tourism department, these sites could emerge as prominent tourist destinations in Jharkhand while also providing employment opportunities for local youth.
