Bloody Battle Over Jalebi! Panchayat Head Hides in Room as Mob Smashes Vehicles

Jehanabad, Bihar: What began as a minor scuffle over sweets turned into a violent clash during Republic Day celebrations in Gonwan Panchayat, Jehanabad district. A dispute over insufficient jalebis escalated into a full-blown lathi (stick) fight, leaving one person seriously injured and creating panic across the area. Panchayat head Amarnath Singh had to lock himself in a room to protect his life while the mob vandalized his vehicles. Police are currently investigating the incident.

Chaos Erupts Over Jalebi Distribution
The Republic Day festivities at the Gonwan Panchayat government office began peacefully on 26 January. Amarnath Singh, along with his supporters, arrived in a convoy to hoist the national flag. The trouble started when the jalebis were being distributed. Reports suggest that there were not enough sweets for everyone, prompting children to raise an uproar. What began as a verbal altercation between villagers and the Panchayat head’s supporters quickly escalated into a violent clash, with sticks flying from both sides.

Panchayat Head’s Life in Danger
As the situation spiraled out of control, an angry crowd—including children—surrounded the area. Fearing for his safety, Amarnath Singh and his supporters locked themselves in a room inside the building. Meanwhile, the mob attacked the Panchayat head’s vehicles, smashing their windows. During the violence, a man named Ramakant Paswan suffered a broken arm and was seriously injured; he was admitted to the district hospital for treatment.

Children Run Away with Jalebis
Panchayat head Amarnath Singh explained that the conflict arose when some children ran off with jalebis, and attempts to stop them led to the scuffle. He denied any deliberate attempt to instigate violence. Station Officer Shyamakant Pandey confirmed that a written complaint has been received from the Panchayat head. Police inspected the site and have pledged to identify the culprits and initiate legal action promptly.
