Jaisalmer, Rajasthan: In a strange and amusing incident, a theft at a government engineer’s official residence in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district has left both the victim and police stunned—not just by the burglary, but by the thief’s witty “dialogues” scribbled on walls and notes before making his escape.
The incident occurred at the government quarter of Assistant Engineer (AEN) Sohan Jangid. Jangid had stepped out of town for work, and the house was unoccupied overnight. Taking advantage of the deserted premises, the thief broke in and carried out the burglary.
Alcohol Drunk, Snacks Missed
According to the complainant, while packing stolen items, the thief discovered an expensive bottle of liquor inside the house. He reportedly sat down and drank the entire bottle on the spot. However, annoyed by the absence of snacks, the thief left behind a handwritten note saying:
“If you keep liquor, at least keep potato chips too.”
Walls Turned Into a Message Board
The thief went a step further by leaving behind several dramatic and humorous messages on paper and even on the wall using lipstick and the homeowner’s pen. Among the notes were lines such as:
- “You will keep searching, but Bihari Babu was never here and will never be found.”
- “I am not taking any documents. Otherwise, you know what could happen.”
- “If you go to the police, consider me your biggest enemy. Otherwise, forget me and I’ll forget you.”
- “I am writing with your beautiful pen. I enjoyed your food. Compulsion forced me to do this for the first time. If I survive, I won’t forget your kindness.”
The note was signed off as “Thank you – Bihari Babu.”
Stolen Items
The stolen items include one laptop, one television, two perfumes, two brand-new shirts, a pair of jeans, and a blazer. The victim stated that further inspection may reveal additional missing items.
Police Begin Investigation
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined, and fingerprints along with other forensic evidence have been collected. The thief’s bold notes appear to openly challenge the police, making the case even more intriguing.
Authorities say efforts are underway to identify and arrest the accused at the earliest.
