Bikaner Constable Bastiram Wears Helmet While Cycling for 8 Years to Promote Road Safety

In a remarkable display of discipline and public awareness, Bikaner police constable Bastiram has been wearing a helmet while cycling for the past eight years, sending a strong message about road safety. His commitment stems from a tragic incident in 2018 that deeply impacted him.

Bastiram, posted as a driver in the CID CB Bikaner range, cycles about 15 kilometers daily to reach his duty station. While on his rides, he not only follows the rules himself but also educates fellow two-wheeler riders about the life-saving importance of helmets. He emphasizes that even though many young riders see helmets as cumbersome, this simple precaution can prevent fatal accidents.

The turning point for Bastiram came in 2018 when he witnessed a young man riding without a helmet. Losing balance, the rider fell, suffering a severe head injury that led to his death on the spot. Shaken by the incident, Bastiram resolved to lead by example, making helmet use a personal habit and a tool for public awareness.

During the state’s road safety campaign, which ran from December 13 to 27, Bastiram’s efforts have inspired the community. He believes that personal behavior often has a greater impact than laws. Seeing a police officer wear a helmet while cycling encourages citizens to adopt safe practices themselves.

Bastiram’s consistent example demonstrates how one life-altering event can transform an individual into a catalyst for societal change. His dedication not only ensures his own safety but also serves as a compelling model for road safety awareness in society.
