Bijapur: Security Forces Engage in Encounter with Naxalites; Top Maoist Leaders Surrounded, Search Operation Underway

Bijapur, Chhattisgarh: Security forces in the Naxal-affected district of Bijapur have launched a major operation against Maoist insurgents. An encounter is currently underway in the Bhairamgarh-Indravati area, where forces have surrounded several top Naxal leaders.

Following intelligence inputs regarding the presence of a significant number of Maoists in the forests and hills of the district, security personnel, including units of the Bijapur DRG, initiated a joint search operation. Both sides have exchanged fire, and the situation remains tense as forces continue to engage the insurgents.

Previous Encounters and Seizures
Earlier, on Thursday, a similar encounter took place in Sukma district of Bastar, where security personnel killed three Naxalites, including a woman. During the search operation at the site, a large cache of weapons and Naxal-related materials was recovered.

Accelerated Anti-Naxal Operations in Chhattisgarh
Chhattisgarh’s security forces have been intensifying anti-Naxal operations across the state. Bijapur remains the most Naxal-affected district. This year alone, several top Maoist leaders have been neutralized, forcing insurgent groups onto the defensive.

Government Deadline for Naxal Eradication
The central government has set a deadline of March 2026 for eliminating Naxalism in the state. Following this, security forces have been continuously targeting insurgent hideouts, prompting many Maoists to surrender in recent months.

The operation in Bijapur is ongoing, and authorities are making concerted efforts to neutralize the remaining insurgents while ensuring the safety of civilians in the region.
