In a moment of pride for Bihar, social activist and international speaker Renu Paswan from Muzaffarpur has received a special invitation to walk the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, one of the world’s most prestigious global events. This marks the first time a woman from Bihar will represent the state on the iconic Cannes red carpet. The festival is scheduled to be held in May 2026, in the presence of global media and renowned international personalities.
Showcasing Bihar’s Strength to the World
At Cannes, Renu Paswan will present Bihar’s social identity on a global platform, highlighting themes of women empowerment, prevention of child marriage, and upliftment of girls. Her participation is not only a personal milestone but also a powerful opportunity to project a positive and progressive image of Bihar before the international community.
Speaking about the achievement, Renu said that the invitation is a matter of pride not just for her, but for the entire country—especially Bihar.
“Cannes is a global platform where world leaders, artists, and change-makers come together. Representing Bihar there is a huge responsibility. I have dedicated my life to women’s empowerment and the welfare of children, and perhaps this very mission brought me this opportunity,” she said.
From Resisting Child Marriage to Global Recognition
Renu Paswan’s journey has been one of courage and determination. Born in the Malighat area of Muzaffarpur, she opposed child marriage at the age of just 14, choosing education over social pressure. She completed her schooling in Muzaffarpur, earned her graduation from Bengaluru University, and completed post-graduation from Pune University.
She went on to work with Infosys for nearly 15 years as a People Management Leader. However, a tragic turning point came in 2016 with the death of her brother. She left her corporate career and committed her life entirely to social service.
Building ‘Tejaswini Bharat Foundation’
In 2020, Renu returned to Bihar and founded the Tejaswini Bharat Foundation, focusing on empowering rural women and youth. Under her leadership, the foundation has:
- Conducted over 1,000 awareness meetings on women empowerment
- Opened open-school centres for underprivileged children
- Trained 100+ women in entrepreneurship
- Formed self-help groups addressing domestic violence, health, hygiene, and girls’ education
Representing India at the United Nations
Renu Paswan has also represented India at various United Nations platforms, and her inspiring life story is included in the BPSC syllabus, serving as motivation for thousands of aspirants.
She appeals to the media and society to change their perception of Bihar.
“Bihar should not be seen only through a negative lens. It is not just about folk songs or stereotypes. The state has educated, professional, and empowered people who are driving change. The world needs to see that Bihar is moving forward,” she said.
As Renu Paswan prepares to step onto the Cannes red carpet, she carries with her not just personal success, but the voice, strength, and aspirations of Bihar’s daughters—ready to be heard by the world.
