Mahua Voting Live: Tej Pratap Yadav Faces Direct Duel with RJD’s Mukesh Roshan; Voting Updates Inside

Vaishali, Bihar: Voting is underway for the Mahua Assembly seat in Bihar as the first phase of elections progresses. The spotlight is on Tej Pratap Yadav, the eldest son of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, who is contesting as a rebel candidate from the Jan Shakti Janata Dal, against RJD’s sitting MLA Mukesh Roshan.

Political Context

Mahua, located in Vaishali district, has historically been an RJD stronghold. Since 2000, the constituency has mostly witnessed RJD victories, except for 2010 when JDU won the seat. Tej Pratap Yadav first contested from Mahua in 2015 and won, but in 2020 he shifted to Hasanpur, leaving Mukesh Roshan to represent RJD in Mahua.

This year, after being expelled from RJD, Tej Pratap has returned to Mahua, setting up a high-stakes battle against his father’s party. His nomination saw a large gathering of supporters, although notably, no family members were present with him.

Mahua’s electoral history is rich: it was established in 1951, briefly abolished after the early elections of 1952, 1957, and 1962, and reestablished in 1977. Over the decades, victories here have alternated among Janata Party, Lok Dal, Janata Dal, JDU, and RJD, while Congress and BJP have never won in this constituency.
