Gopalganj, Bihar | Social Media Turns Deadly:
A shocking incident unfolded in Bihar’s Gopalganj district on Friday evening, when an Instagram post sparked a violent confrontation between two families, leading to a bloody knife attack that left four members of the same family critically injured.
The gruesome attack took place in Uchkagaon Bazaar under the Uchkagaon police station limits. The injured were rushed to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital’s emergency ward, and later referred to Patna’s PMCH for advanced treatment. Police have detained three suspects connected to the attack.
The Trigger: A Social Media Comment
According to reports, the two families had been embroiled in a long-standing rivalry. The latest spark came when a member of one family posted on Instagram, prompting an abusive comment in reply from a youth belonging to the rival family.
Soon after, a group of youths from Mathauli village ambushed four to five members of the other family in the middle of the crowded Uchkagaon market. What began as a heated argument quickly escalated into a violent scuffle, culminating in a brutal knife assault.
Violence Caught the Town Off-Guard
Eyewitnesses said panic spread through the market as the assailants chased and stabbed the victims repeatedly. Locals and relatives rushed the injured to the nearby community health center, from where they were later shifted to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital and eventually to Patna PMCH for specialized care.
Police Statement
Hathua SDPO Anand Mohan Gupta, in an official statement, confirmed that the violence stemmed from an Instagram post and noted that both families had a history of disputes.
“The confrontation began over an indecent comment on social media. Four members of the same family sustained stab wounds. Some others who tried to intervene were also injured,”
said SDPO Gupta.
He further added that three accused individuals are currently in custody for interrogation and that heavy police deployment has been ordered in the area to prevent further escalation.
Tension Grips Uchkagaon
Following the incident, tension has gripped the locality, with security personnel maintaining round-the-clock vigilance to avert any retaliatory violence. The investigation is ongoing, and police are monitoring social media activities linked to both families.
What began as a casual Instagram exchange has once again exposed how digital conflicts are spilling into real-life violence — with deadly consequences.
