Sitamarhi, Bihar: A heated dispute between two female teachers at a middle school in Dumra block, Sitamarhi, has escalated into a full-blown controversy, drawing attention across the district. The District Education Officer (DEO), Raghavendra Mani Tripathi, has stepped in, suspending both teachers to restore discipline and set an example.
The Incident
The conflict took place at Middle School, Pokhar Tol, Bariyarpur, involving the headmistress Ahana Gupta and another teacher, Punita Kumari. The dispute reportedly involved allegations of improper conduct, physical altercations, and creating a hostile environment at the school. The confrontation disrupted classes, affecting students’ learning and tarnishing the school’s reputation.
Viral Video Adds Fuel
On December 13, 2025, a video of the incident recorded in the school premises surfaced online. The DEO noted that the video, which was neither reported to authorities nor approved, polluted the school environment and negatively impacted the department’s image. Following the release of the video, Ahana Gupta was asked to provide an explanation on December 15, which was found to be misleading. Subsequently, she was suspended.
Physical Altercation Confirmed
The investigation revealed that Punita Kumari physically assaulted the headmistress during the dispute, leaving her injured. The DEO found evidence of uncooperative behavior, use of abusive language, disruption of school discipline, incitement to halt teaching, and other actions that compromised the school atmosphere. As a result, Punita Kumari was also suspended.
Community Reactions and Denials
Locals from Bariyarpur have expressed that both teachers were at fault. The headmistress, however, denied allegations of an improper relationship, calling them baseless. She also stated that after becoming headmistress, she was initially not given full responsibilities, including financial authority, and claimed that some teachers’ spouses had threatened her on school premises.
Administrative Action
During the suspension period, the DEO has assigned both teachers to report at the Dumra Block Education Office (BEO). Authorities have emphasized that the disciplinary measures aim to maintain school decorum and protect the students’ learning environment.
