Bihar Shocker: “This Road Was Built Overnight

A shocking video from Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s home district, Nalanda, has triggered a wave of public outrage and raised serious questions over corruption in road construction projects. The viral clip, allegedly from Sirsi village in Harnaut, shows villagers exposing a newly built road that crumbles with just a few hand movements.

Villager Tears Up Road Barehanded

In the video shared by the social media handle The Nalanda Index, villagers can be seen confronting officials at the site while one man digs his fingers into the freshly laid road and peels off the tar layer like loose cloth.

The villager can be heard saying,
“E road hahi re… ratiya mein kaam karke bhaag gelai!”
(“This is the road… They built it overnight and disappeared!”)

Only half an inch of tar appears to have been spread over loose soil — raising suspicions of a massive scam executed right under the Chief Minister’s nose.

“Quality is Zero Percent”: Social Media Raises Alarm

The Nalanda Index post reads:

“This is from Sirsi village in CM Nitish Kumar’s constituency. The quality of the road is zero percent. How can such massive corruption take place in Nalanda? Strict action must be taken against the contractor and responsible engineers.”

The video has already crossed 20,000 views, with hundreds sharing it as an example of the alleged rot in Bihar’s public works system.

“Just a Thin Black Sheet”: More Public Anger Surfaces

The viral clip shows a visibly angry villager ripping apart the road while questioning the officials standing nearby. The tar layer appears so thin that it comes off immediately, exposing bare soil underneath.

Residents claim that:

  • The road was built overnight in haste
  • Materials like tar and concrete were used in minimal quantities
  • Funds were allegedly pocketed by contractors and middlemen

Voices of Frustration Flood Social Media

Several users across Bihar have reacted sharply:

  • “Is this how you plan to develop the country?” wrote Aditya, demanding action against engineers and contractors.
  • “Nothing will happen. Not the first time, not the last,” commented another user, calling it Bihar’s tragedy.
  • One user wrote from Jehanabad,
“Everyone is part of the commission system. Contractors take tenders at the lowest price and then cut corners. The public keeps suffering.”

A Test for the New Government

The incident comes just weeks after a new government with a massive mandate took power in Bihar. The video has now put the administration — especially the Road Construction Department — under severe scrutiny.

Local villagers insist that strict accountability is needed, or such substandard construction will continue unchecked.
