Bihar Sees Sunshine Amid Chill, But Fog and Cold Nights Persist; Weekly Forecast Out

Patna: After several weeks of dense fog and bitter cold, Bihar is finally seeing a change in its weather, with sunlight brightening up most parts of the state during the day. The clear skies have brought some relief, raising daytime temperatures and encouraging residents to step outdoors. However, the early mornings and nights continue to remain chilly, and the state is yet to see full respite from the cold.

In southern Bihar, districts such as Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Munger, and Aurangabad are experiencing noticeable warmth during the day, as fog has largely lifted. Parks, markets, and public spaces have regained activity, with residents enjoying the afternoon sun.

Cold Relief Still Limited
Despite the daytime warmth, minimum temperatures remain between 6°C and 8°C in several regions, keeping nights and early mornings cold. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), while maximum temperatures have risen, nighttime lows have not increased correspondingly. Northern Bihar continues to experience fog-related concerns.

Tarai districts, including West and East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, and Kishanganj, are expected to witness light to moderate fog until 19 January, with isolated patches of dense fog. In Motihari on Thursday, visibility dropped to 400 meters, highlighting the persistence of foggy conditions in the region.

Statewide Temperature Overview
Across Bihar, maximum temperatures ranged from 20.6°C to 25.7°C, while minimums fluctuated between 5.9°C and 12.5°C. Sabour in Bhagalpur recorded the lowest temperature at 5.9°C. Meteorologists note that the significant difference between day and night temperatures is creating a unique winter pattern in Bihar: warm days followed by cold nights.

Weekly Forecast: Relief Still Not in Sight
The Patna Meteorological Centre predicts dry weather across the state for the coming week, with no cold wave or severe chill warnings issued. Temperatures are expected to remain stable for the next two to three days, with a slight rise in daytime temperatures afterward. In northern Bihar, fog warnings may persist until 22 January.
