Bihar Railways: New Bypass Line from Baijnathpur to New Jhajha to Cut Travel Time, Direct Trains to Patna and Darbhanga

Supaul, Bihar, January 17, 2026: Rail travelers in the Kosi and Mithilanchal regions now have reason to rejoice. The Baijnathpur–Andauli–New Jhajha bypass line has been completed, and following a successful inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), train operations on this route are set to commence. The new line will allow trains to run directly to Patna and Darbhanga without changing engines, saving up to 40 minutes on the Saharsa–Darbhanga stretch.

Direct Connectivity Without Engine Changes

Previously, trains on this route required engine reversal or replacement to change direction, causing delays and inconvenience to passengers. With the new bypass line operational, trains can now move seamlessly from Supaul, Saharsa, Darbhanga, Nirmali, and Forbesganj to their destinations. CRS successfully inspected the line on Friday, and regular services are expected to begin by late January or early February.

Enhanced Efficiency and Passenger Convenience

The new line is expected to improve punctuality and operational efficiency, allowing electric trains to reach destinations without interruptions. Baijnathpur–Andauli and New Jhajha have now been upgraded from “halt” to junction status, enabling more trains to stop here, which will directly benefit local commuters, rural residents, and small business owners.

Economic and Social Impact

The bypass line will serve as a major economic boost for the Kosi and Mithilanchal regions. Faster freight transport will facilitate trade, making it easier and cheaper for local businesses to move goods between markets. Improved rail connectivity will also help students, working professionals, and patients access major cities’ educational institutions and hospitals more conveniently. Long demanded by the region, the new bypass is set to be a game-changer for local transportation infrastructure and economic development.
