In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through Bihar’s medical community, a quack doctor in Bhagalpur performed a surgical delivery on a woman after watching a YouTube video — resulting in her death. The newborn survived. When the woman continued to bleed heavily, the unqualified doctor reportedly advised her relatives to take her to a higher medical facility and fled the scene.
Incident Details
The tragic event occurred in the Rasulpur police station area, specifically in the Ekchari Shrimath locality of Bhagalpur district. The deceased has been identified as Swati Devi, wife of Vikram Sah from Thakur Gangti, Godda district, Jharkhand. Swati had come to her maternal home in Kharhara and went into labor on Thursday night. Her family took her to an illegal clinic operated by Amar Kumar.
Doctor Performed Surgery by Watching YouTube
Swati’s mother, Sushma Devi, alleged that the doctor refused to allow a normal delivery and pressured them into a surgical procedure, charging ₹30,000 for the operation. Shockingly, the doctor reportedly referred to a YouTube video during the surgery.
Doctor Flees After Woman’s Condition Worsens
When Swati’s bleeding did not stop, the doctor abandoned the procedure, instructing her family to rush her to a hospital, and locked the clinic before fleeing. En route to the hospital, Swati passed away. Angered by the incident, locals and family members staged a protest outside the clinic, blocking it with her body. Police arrived and calmed the crowd before sending the body for postmortem.
Illegal Clinic Sealed, Police Investigation Underway
Investigation revealed that the illegal clinic was run by Amar Kumar from Rasulpur, operating out of rented premises belonging to Amod Sah. Amar Kumar himself treated patients and performed complex operations, assisted by a woman and a man acting as nurse and compounder.
The police have sealed the illegal clinic. Station Officer Amit Kumar said they are awaiting a formal written complaint from the family before proceeding with further legal action.
