Bihar Prepares to Remove 5.22 Million Names from Ration Card List: Check if You’re Affected

Patna: The Food and Consumer Protection Department of Bihar has issued a major warning for ration card holders. Approximately 5.22 million beneficiaries across 38 districts of the state could have their names removed from the Public Distribution System (PDS) list due to failed Aadhaar verification or discrepancies in their data. This action follows a detailed audit of ration card records aimed at ensuring transparency and curbing fraudulent claims.

Aadhaar Seeding Failures Trigger Exclusion
Bihar had set a target to link Aadhaar with 67.4 million PDS beneficiaries. So far, about 59.2 million cards have successfully completed verification. However, a significant number of records remain inconsistent or incorrect. The department has now initiated the process to remove those beneficiaries whose Aadhaar data does not match the system, which may result in them losing access to subsidized or free food grains.

District-Wise Impact
The capital Patna tops the list with 296,000 beneficiaries rejected. Other heavily affected districts include Darbhanga (264,000), Vaishali (243,000), Nalanda (229,000), and East Champaran (221,000). Large numbers were also removed in Muzaffarpur (179,000), Madhubani (198,000), and West Champaran (206,000). Despite these removals, millions of verified beneficiaries in these districts will continue to receive ration supplies.

Online Application for Ration Cards
To ensure transparency, Bihar has fully digitized the ration card application process. Individuals whose names have been removed or those seeking new cards can apply online from home via the official portal: rconline.bihar.gov.in. The department has urged citizens to keep their Aadhaar data updated to avoid disruptions in accessing government welfare benefits in the future.
