Suraj Tiwari Arrested After 11 Months on the Run
Suraj Tiwari, a resident of Shaktinagar, Balidas Math, Hajipur, had been on the police radar for months. A police notice had even been issued at his residence on February 17, 2026, warning him to surrender. Acting on technical surveillance, a special police team carried out a raid in Saran, successfully apprehending Tiwari. The police plan to take him on remand for questioning to recover the stolen gold and track other fugitive accomplices.
Details of the Ara Tanishq Robbery
On March 10, 2025, seven armed robbers struck the Tanishq showroom at Sheesh Mahal Chowk, Ara, making away with jewelry worth approximately ₹10.5 crore in broad daylight. A police encounter followed shortly after the robbery, leaving two criminals injured and resulting in the recovery of two bags of stolen jewelry.
Ongoing Hunt for Remaining Suspects
During the investigation, police had several encounters with fleeing suspects. On March 22, 2025, Chunmun Jha from Araria was killed in an encounter, while another suspect, Prince, was neutralized in Vaishali on February 6. Police continue to search for two main fugitives known as ‘Nikku Singh’ and ‘Baba’.
Recovery of Stolen Gold
Police records indicate that both Suraj Tiwari and previously arrested Nitish Pandey possessed roughly half a kilo of gold each from the loot. With Tiwari’s arrest, authorities hope to recover the remaining stolen gold and uncover other layers of the robbery conspiracy.
This arrest marks a significant step in wrapping up one of Bihar’s most sensational jewelry heists in recent years, as police tighten their grip on the remaining fugitives.
