Bihar Police Implements ‘No Reels’ Policy: On-Duty Mobile Use to Invite Strict Action, Orders DGP Vinay Kumar

Patna: The Bihar Police Headquarters has taken a strict stance against on-duty mobile phone use, particularly watching or creating social media reels. Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar has issued clear directives stating that unnecessary mobile use during duty will not be tolerated, and offenders will face immediate departmental action.

‘No Reels’ Policy and Disciplinary Measures

According to the new orders, any police officer caught making or watching reels while on duty will face suspension and other strict departmental penalties. The initiative is aimed at improving the professional conduct of officers and enhancing the image of the police force.

DGP Vinay Kumar emphasized that these measures are part of a broader effort to maintain law and order while ensuring transparency and accountability within the police department.

Curbing Misconduct and Middlemen in Police Stations

The new directives also target improper practices in police stations. All visitor entries must be recorded in the visitor register, and the entry of intermediaries or middlemen (‘dalals’) is strictly prohibited. Officers have been instructed to use official mobile numbers and display only photos taken in uniform as their WhatsApp display pictures.

Recent Incidents Prompting Action

In recent weeks, several videos and images showing police misconduct went viral on social media, damaging the force’s image. Following these incidents, disciplinary measures were implemented, ranging from suspension to transfers.

  • In Nalanda, a police officer was suspended after a video emerged of him slapping an Anganwadi worker.
  • In Patna, a female officer was sent to police lines for slapping a man.
  • In Saran, a constable was suspended for mistreating a woman.

DGP’s Message

DGP Vinay Kumar stated that misconduct at any level will not be tolerated, and the new policies aim to ensure that police personnel maintain professionalism while on duty. These steps are intended to restore public trust and ensure the police serve with accountability and decorum.
