Bihar Police ASI Caught on Video Extorting Drivers, Slaps One During Illegal Collection

Purnia, Bihar: A video that has gone viral across Bihar shows an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) demanding illegal money from truck drivers at Dalkola Checkpost, near the West Bengal border. The footage captures the ASI, Ramdev Kumar Singh, slapping a driver during the confrontation, only to be chased away by other drivers.

Illegal Extortion Incident

The video, recorded early in the morning, shows ASI Singh approaching a pickup truck carrying fish and asking the driver for “daily payments.” The driver refused, questioning what exactly the ASI was demanding payment for. The confrontation escalated when Singh threatened the driver, citing a police vehicle parked nearby. Despite the intimidation, the drivers refused to comply, and Singh eventually attacked one driver before fleeing.

Background and Investigation

This incident occurred near the Dangaraha police outpost, where officers have reportedly been involved in similar extortion activities for years. The drivers documented the episode, bringing public attention to the matter. Following the viral video, ASI Ramdev Kumar Singh has been arrested, while Dangaraha OP in-charge Amit Kumar has been suspended.

The video has sparked widespread criticism of Bihar Police on social media. Citizens expressed shock and frustration at the corruption, with many questioning the integrity of law enforcement. Some netizens highlighted the broader implications, arguing that such systemic corruption hinders economic development and public trust.
