Bihar Police Arrest Mastermind Behind ‘Agni’ App Cyber Scam

Motihari, Bihar: Police in Bihar’s Motihari district have arrested a man from Faridabad, Haryana, who allegedly created his own Android app to defraud users of over ₹1 crore. The accused, Sangam Kumar, is believed to be the mastermind behind the fraudulent ‘Agni’ app, which lured victims with attractive offers and rewards.

How the Scam Worked

According to police, the scam targeted youth by promising high returns on mobile recharges, electricity bill payments, and advertisements, along with attractive gifts such as cars for larger investments. Victims were persuaded to deposit funds into the app’s wallet. Initially, small returns were shown to build trust, after which the app was suddenly shut down and the accused fled.

Sangam Kumar reportedly presented himself as the CEO of the Agni app, and the gang even organized seminars in multiple locations to attract more users. Police suspect that several crores of rupees have been siphoned off from dozens of victims.

The Motihari Cyber Police, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Abhinav Parasar, identified Sangam Kumar through investigation and launched a special raid in Haryana, successfully arresting him. The police are now questioning him to identify other gang members, trace bank accounts, and track digital transactions.

Efforts are underway to determine the full extent of the scam and the states affected. Authorities aim to collect detailed information on all transactions to ascertain the total amount defrauded, offering victims hope for justice.
